As part of her membership with the Charter Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA), Lizzie is an eco broker and this year has taken a lead judge role in the judging panel for the designer water competition.
What do you mean designer water?
I hope to answer this question here as to the uninitiated it sounds rather strange.
In a bid to encourage yachts to reduce their plastic waste the designer water competition was established by CYBA at the Antigua Charter Yacht Show in 2016. Yachts are divided into categories depending on their weekly charter cost and usually the chef and/or stew concoct an infused water that must use water produced from the desalinators on board, demonstrates excellent filtration, uses local produce, is alcohol and sugar syrup free, primarily made up of water and is quenchable throughout the day. Obviously one of the main marking criteria is taste but presentation and additional eco practices on board are also taken into consideration with the added criterion that the water must be served in a reusable container not made from plastic.
The EMMYS has embraced this competition and this year Lizzie headed up the judging panel, there were a record 40 entries so 4 teams each comprising 2 judges spent the first day of the EMMYS getting seriously hydrated.
I was following June and Trish who were judges in the diamond category so I got to witness some incredibly creative interpretations of the task. Even those who did not place in the top 3 were incredibly strong and certainly demonstrated an enthusiasm to encourage guests to drink their filtered water on board.
